The Senate passed legislation Wednesday that would nullify U.S. tariffs on Canada, just as President Donald Trump is engaged in trade talks in Asia as well as an increasingly bitter trade spat with U.
In September, the Senate also joined the House in repealing Biden-era protections for the Central Yukon region, using the Congressional Review Act. The action is designed in part to support development of the proposed 211-mile Ambler Road through Alaska wilderness to support mining. Alaska’s congressional delegation sponsored that joint resolution.

Trump administration cuts Democrats out of a briefing on US military strikes, top Senate Dem says
Trump administration briefed Republicans on Wednesday about US military strikes on suspected drug boats without telling Democratic members about the briefing, according to a top Senate Democrat and a source with direct knowledge of the incident.
The U.S. House hasn't voted on a budget measure since Sept. 19 before the shutdown. Most of the Republican representatives from Kentucky voted in favor of the budget, however Republican Rep. Thomas Massie voted "no" alongside Kentucky's lone Democrat, Morgan McGarvey.
The Senate failed for a 13th time to advance a GOP funding bill that would end the government shutdown, now on Day 28. Follow live updates here.
