Cases of government official impersonation scams have more than tripled, jumping from 589 in the first half of 2024 to 1,762 over the same period this year. Since June 2025, at least 80 victims have been tricked into handing over cash or even gold bars, losing a combined S$6.7 million. The public is reminded that government officials will never ask you over the phone to transfer money, reveal your banking details, download apps from unofficial app stores, or redirect your call to the police. | M
